Modular vs. Custom: What's the Difference?
A custom catwalk is field-welded to your building geometry, one weld at a time. A modular catwalk system is different: platforms, stairs, and guardrails are shop-fabricated to spec, then assembled on site as a bolt-together catwalk system. There's no field welding, so there's less hot-work downtime, fewer permitting hurdles tied to on-site welding, and a structure you can unbolt, reconfigure, or extend if your layout changes.
Custom-welded catwalks still make sense for irregular spans, tight clearances, or highly specific geometry that a standardized system can't match. Modular systems make sense when speed, flexibility, and repeatable design carry more weight than a fully bespoke footprint. That's why we build and support both approaches rather than pushing every project toward one method.
Built for No-Weld Installation
Every component of our no-weld catwalk platform is engineered and fabricated in-house, then shipped ready to bolt together. That means crews spend less time on site with a welder and more time back in production. Guardrails, toe boards, and stair connections meet OSHA guardrail specifications, including 42-inch top rails built to withstand 200 pounds of lateral force, a mid-rail, and toe boards where required. We engineer each platform to the load and span your application demands, whether it's a personnel-only access route or a walkway that also carries tools, hoses, or light equipment.

Is a bolted connection as strong and code-compliant as a welded one?
When it's engineered correctly, yes. OSHA and building codes don't require welded connections; they require the finished structure to meet load, guardrail, and stability requirements regardless of how components are joined. A properly engineered bolt-together catwalk system uses connection hardware sized to the same load and safety factors a welded joint would need to meet.
How much faster is a modular catwalk system to install than a custom-welded one?
It varies by project size and site conditions, but the time savings come from moving fabrication off-site. Because platforms, stairs, and guardrails arrive pre-cut and pre-fitted, crews are bolting components together rather than laying out and welding joints on your production floor. This reduces the number of days your operation has to work around hot work, welding fumes, and fire watch requirements.
What happens if our facility layout changes after a modular catwalk is installed?
That's one of the practical advantages of building with bolted connections instead of field welds. A modular catwalk system can be partially disassembled and reconfigured. If you add equipment, change a production line, or need to extend a walkway, you're not cutting out welded steel to make it happen.
